Onça Overdrive - Discontinued
Onça is a class A single ended amplifier in a box, using a pair of JFET's in the place of tubes. Onça breaks up just like those classic little tube amps - there's no diodes doing any clipping here, just true organic overdrive. JFETs function in the same way as vacuum tubes. Where in a tube an audio signal is a applied to the grid to control the flow of electrons from the cathode to the anode, in a JFET an audio signal is applied to the 'gate' to control the flow of electrons from the 'source' to the 'drain'. In plain English, this means you get exactly the same touch sensitive, dynamic, reactive to pickup choice, harmonically rich breakup that you would expect from a tube amp. Super compact & simple to use, you really only need the one volume knob as you can use your guitars volume pot to clean it up & your guitars tone pot to expand Onça's EQ. Born for stacking, it's perfect for driving with other overdrives or boosters.

Controls
- Volume
- Hot/Cold switch - Bias the JFET sitting in the place of the power tube hot or cold. As in a tube amp, colder will give your more clean headroom, whereas biasing hotter will allow it to saturate more readily.
- High pass filter switch - cut low end for extra sparkle, jangly overdrive or to push high frequencies into your amp more like a treble booster.
100% Analogue Tone
Most of us never get to experience what is known as second order harmonic distortion. This is the kind of overdrive that is particularly pleasing to the human ear, exclusively produced by low wattage single ended, true class A amplifiers. As most of us use push-pull amplifiers (the kind with 2 power tubes) we don't get to experience it as a push-pull amps phase inverter (the last pre-amp tube) cancels out second order harmonic distortion.
With Onça though you can have as much as you want by getting it from a pedal instead! The first thing you'll notice when you first plug it in is how immediate the attack is, the second thing you'll notice is just how dynamic the saturation is to your pick attack. On its own it will range from clean to mid range overdrive. Stack another overdrive or booster into the front & it will happily reach high gain saturation.
Settings
In order of least to most overdriven:
- Low saturation top boost - Bias switch set to Cold (up), HPF on (up)
- High saturation top boost - Bias switch set to Hot (down), HPF on (up)
- Low saturation full range - Bias switch set to Cold (up), HPF off (down)
- High saturation full range- Bias switch set to Hot (down), HPF off (down)
Premium Components
- JFET pair providing true organic overdrive - no clipping diodes emulating overdrive like most OD pedals.
- Premium orange drop poly capacitors. These caps have a superior frequency response & make for rich & complex tone.
- Panasonic electrolytic caps & high tolerance metal film resistors.
- Solid core copper wire which has significantly less capacitance than typical multistrand. This eliminates high frequency loss when bypassed.
- Hammond enclosure
- Neutrik Jacks
- Handwired
