Chamois Buffer - Discontinued
Buffers are important, & they're not all made equal. Usually its difficult to hear the difference between buffers, as of course a good buffer should be transparent. The key difference though tends not to be how a buffer sounds, but how it makes the pedals after it sound. Some common buffers can make an overdrive pedal's top end sound brittle or harsh, or add unpleasant overtones to the distortion. The Chamois Buffer has been designed to get the best out of your overdrive pedals. It delivers smooth highs, full mids & punchy lows, all while keeping your tone as pure as possible. In addition to that it is available in 3 jack layout options to best suit your pedal board. More information coming soon.

The 3 most common buffer circuits are Opamp, FET & BJT based. Each with their own strengths & weaknesses.
Opamps have very high input impedance which is excellent for a buffer, however they can be less musical & more clinical sounding than other designs. Depending on the design they can also add unpleasant overtones to an overdrive pedal when placed before it.
FETs also have good input impedance, but can also be cold sounding or less transparent than other designs.
BJTs have poor input impedance which makes them a poor candidate for buffers, however they tend to be the most musical & bring the best out in pedals following them.
With some clever circuitry however it's possible to bias a BJT in such a way that it exponentially increases it's input impedance, greatly improving it's performance as a buffer with the benefit of the more musical character of BJT based design. Which is exactly what we've done with our Chamois Buffer.
